A friend of mine matches her bras with her panties every single day. That’s a lot of effort considering your unmentionables are often only seen by your intimate partner, by a friend in a dressing room who’s helping you shop, or by your oblivious kid who never gives you any privacy.
Undergarments are woefully under-appreciated. It’s tragic, really. I just bought the coolest hot pink underwear, and who will ever know?
Like writing stories. So much investment and effort but often only seen by a few. Fantastical and scandalous stories may be lurking in your mind…imaginary people carrying on at all hours…but nobody knows about them. What a shame.
But wait. What if we showed our stuff?
I’ll show you my va-va-voom new hot pink underwear>>
No big deal. I’m still here.
You share your stories wherever you’re comfortable, and I’ll share mine here at hotpinkunderwear.com.
We should consider our reputations–this is such a slippery slope.
What if we start submitting our stories to literary journals? PEOPLE [our parents!] MIGHT READ THEM. I already feel so risqué. Let’s start querying agents! And sending our manuscripts to small publishers!
Oh heavens! Imagine what could happen.
haha…this must be the most creative “about me” page on wordpress I’ve seen yet!
Thanks, Frances antoinette! I was aiming for edgy cool girl, but my track record favors dorky wierdo. I guess you go with what you got.
Panties are actually one of my favorite words! Very ingenious About page.
Thanks so much, Tom! I’m a total newbie (almost virgin) to blogging. Just started last month. Looks like I could learn a ton from your blog. I already ran into trouble as I had to switch my URL, so I lost my initial group of followers. I guess you learn as you go.
What happened with your URL? I will introduce you to those who read my blog. The post goes live on March 29th! I a confident those who stop by my site will stop by here to learn about yours as well.
The URL story is really me being an idiot when I was putting the blog together in the first place. The WordPress default URL was stupid, but I didn’t notice it because I was just redirecting to it from hotpinkunderwear.com. Once I realized my mistake, changing it was a bitch. But I figured I should get it right NOW, rather than wait, so I changed the WordPress URL to hotpinkunderwear.wordpress.com
Sorry for the long story, but thank you so much for offering to introduce me to your readers! I’m so grateful.
By the way, I thought I was being so daring by calling my blog Hot Pink Underwear, but I’m a wimp compared to you with Morning Erection. Pure awesomeness, Tom.
You are too kind. I really miss out on a lot of visitors because of the name and I get a lot too. It evens out. I have the best followers anywhere.
You’re so lucky. Maybe someday that will happen for me, too.
In the meantime, I totally agree with the whole like button thing. I’ve noticed people liking my post the nanosecond after I post it. I think it’s just a ploy to get you to their site? Maybe I don’t know what I’m talking about, but know that I genuinely liked your post. And I actually read it.
No Meagan you are absolutely right, and in my post tomorrow I try to rewrite today’s post. I included thing like comments and page stats that had no place in the post other than confuse people. People follow other blogs just so they can like the post in hope that you will visit their blogs. It’s funny and it’s sad because even with the topic of the post, the same person did it again today. Thanks for being brave and stopping by my site. I ask you one favor. Please read one of my favorite posts on my blog called The Most Beautiful Girl In The World (http://morningerection.wordpress.com/2010/08/27/the-most-beautiful-girl-in-the-world/).
Thanks for the follow. Did you finish your MFA? How do/did you like the PLU program?
Hi Ross. I’m just wrapping up my first year and so far, I love it. The program’s unusual in that it’s three years, rather than two. That’s one of the reasons I chose this particular low-res program. I guess I’m sorta slow-ish, so figured I could use the extra year. So glad. How about you?
I graduated last year from Seattle Pacific with my MFA in fiction. It’s also a low res program, and I loved it. What kind of stuff are you working on?
I’m on the verge of turning a corner (I think). Mostly it’s been short stories this year. You know, practice with the old beginnings, middles, endings. But I’m getting serious about a novel. That’s the next step. It’s likely to be YA, because that’s what I love, but I’m not going to worry about categories just yet. I’m focused on writing a good story. And I just happen to enjoy writing young narrators (though not exclusively.) What about you?
I’ve got some short stories I’m trying finish up. But I just quit my job so I can focus on a novel right now. It’s a good thing I have such a supporting wife. I’m sure you get lots of feedback from your program but if you need any extra eyes on your work send something my way. My email is in my about me page. I don’t read a lot of YA, but I’m fascinated by the genre and that it’s so popular.
Funny! I quit my job to focus on my writing, too. And also have a very supportive spouse. Would love to exchange writing sometime. I’ll shoot you an email and we can start a conversation about what we like to read and write. Are you in a writing group?
I’m not in a writing group in the traditional sense. I have a group of friends who are writers and they become my group, but it’s not like we see each other very often, so it’s all done over email. What about you?
I am. In two, actually. But I’m not always sure how helpful writing groups are (I’ve even posted about the topic: https://hotpinkunderwear.com/2012/03/21/writing-groups/)
So I just emailed you. Let’s keep up our conversation via email. ‘kay?
Meagan
hey, thank you so much for following my blog (pageofsean.wordpress.com)
i really hope you enjoy it!
i just got to your blog like two minutes ago, and i’m already loving it.
take care!
Thanks for stopping by, Sean. I’m fascinated by what I’ve read on your blog so far. Your experiences are so different than my own. Thanks for being willing to share.
This is so clever. I love it! Thanks for sharing these things. It makes me want to suck less, too 🙂
Ha! Thanks for reading and commenting, Amy! I love your pic, by the way. Great hat and so pretty!
Thank you, Meagan! Oh, I just realized I am not following you…I MUST follow you, now! 😉
I really am enjoying your writing! 🙂
Thank you!!
the most unusual About page i’ve read. I like the comparison with hot pink underwear which we wouldn’t have seen. This is something different from: My name is XXX, I live in NYC, I’m a member of the YWCA and i’ve an MFA, blablabla. It’s delightfully diffferent…strangely it rightfully retains that title, About.
thank you, Adetokunbo. I like yours, too. concise and to the point.
I am following your blog. You made me cry and then smile within ten minutes!
I’m following you, too! Loved your Soul Sister post!
http://blueloft.wordpress.com/2010/04/28/my-soul-sister/
Thank you! :))
How awesome is that connection?!?
Hot pink underwear as a comparable to our hidden narratives. Hurray for you!
Frequently I find my contrasting connections are too far apart and too gelatinous for me to bring together them with any eloquence and so the loose foundation leaves myself, and those ensnared in my thoughts, worse off than when they began…
As such, I’m so glad to have found your blog, and your mind’s wandering about the outside world all pink and exposed. 0.0 The distinctions and observations you create are the fun twisty kind!
Cheers to your artful writing. 🙂
So appreciate your kind words and thoughtful observations, elihuzra.
Your blog idea is fascinating, btw.
Enjoy the journey! Thanks for passing through…
Hi Meagan,
I just wanted to let you know that I think your blog is terrific and I’m nominating you for a 2012 Blog of the Year Award. I’m still working on the post, but if you take a look at my blog tomorrow, the rules for accepting (not many compared to those other blogging awards!) will be posted there.
Happy New Year! 🙂
http://cancerinmythirties.wordpress.com/
So honored by your nomination! I’ll check out the rules…
Thank you for including me. Wishing you good health and strength and joy in 2013!
Meagan
You are very welcome! I haven’t finished the award post yet, but I will let you know when it is up. I’m a bit (a lot!) behind! 🙂
Thank you for the witty commentary, I also like your grass-roots tell-it-like-it-is perspective. I think all of us who grew up in the country have a bit of that.
Blessings…
Thanks for dropping by, Christopher!
Hi there –
I wanted to let you know that I nominated you for the Very Inspiring Blogger award. I named your blog on my Warm and Fuzzy blog a few days ago – I could not get the ping back to work, so this post was not forwarded to you. (I cannot ping:( ) Anyhoo, if you check my Warm & Fuzzy blog, you will find the stuff to do and to get the image on your site, just copy the image link to your widgets.
I very much enjoy reading your work. and I find you to be a very inspiring person:)
Kimberly
Hi Kimberly,
I’d totally understand if you hate me, but I SUCK at these award things. I mean, the only one I really participated in was Freshly Pressed because I didn’t actually have a choice and then once it happened, I wasn’t obligated to DO anything. Clearly, I have issues. Maybe I’m just an ass or uncomfortable or lazy. I don’t know. But I’m sorry I didn’t follow through. Thank you for nominating me. You probably don’t find me very inspiring these days. I’m pretty uninspiring, really.
Please do not apologize. Not necessary. I enjoy giving these awards as appreciation. I love giving them.
And yes, I do believe you are inspiring. I am so behind on my reading. Thanks to life and life and life. I hope you are well. 😉
Hi 🙂 I love your blog, so, I’ve nominated you for a Liebster Blog Award. http://foreverstartingyoga.wordpress.com/2013/03/08/and-the-liebster-blog-award-goes-to/
Hi Jo, I’m sorry I did not follow through on your nomination, for which I am very grateful. I suck at receiving awards. And I am usually confused by how they work. These are both lame excuses. Mainly I am lazy and awkward. But thank you for nominating me and know that I had EVERY INTENTION of doing what I was supposed to, but then I didn’t do it, which is why four months later I am posting this reply. You are awesome. Please accept my apology. Also we are both Aquarians so that should be worth something. Maybe forgiveness?
Aah, no need for an apology. And therefore, no need for forgiveness. I just enjoy reading your blog, and really had no expectation of/need for action on your part 🙂 I am genuinely touched by your reply. Thank you for taking the time to write to me. I look forward to reading more posts soon x
Well I am not really a pink sort of guy but I like your wicked approach to this ‘About
Page’ as it adds a bit of naughtiness here, don’t worry I am not peeping at your pink
underwear but I shall definitely be calling back to view some of your postings 🙂
Have a wonderful weekend my friend 🙂
Andro
Hi Andro! Thanks for stopping by! The sad truth is that I’m a “false advertiser.” Less naughty and more neurotic.I only act naughty to get attention, which is a total buzz kill, really. But you’re welcome to voyeur about whenever.
Meagan
Like the Terminator always says…
I’ll be back 🙂 lol
Have a lovely evening
and weekend my friend 🙂
Andro
You, too!
A friend of mine and I do sometimes tell each other what pants we’re wearing if we’ve got on some we particularly like. Clearly we have no filtering system. This is a fabby About page!
Hi Nicola!
I’m so glad you stopped by and left a comment because now I know about your blog and it is quite lovely! Your About page is also fabby. (As opposed to “flabby” which is what I first thought you had written. Funny misread given the context.) We seem to have much in common. Except that I am old.
But you should know that 22 was one of my VERY favorite years. Live it up!!
As is evident, you were correct: my filtering system is unreliable. I’m working on it 🙂
Meagan
Hi! I nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. Check it out here: http://stephanieisms.wordpress.com/2013/08/23/versatile-blogger-award/
Keep up the great blogging!
Always,
Stephanie

http://blueloft.wordpress.com/2013/08/25/the-versatile-blogger-award-nomination-d/
Well, I have to say. It’s an original approach that’s certain to get a lot of attention…smart move! Love the underwear! Having said that…I’m looking forward to reading your works as I return time and again. 😉
Thanks! So nice to meet you.

Thanks!
